Moonsoon Restaurant 1990Sapporo - Japan The project is an interior enclosure. The constraints of the conventional building created the desire for Hadid to break away. The restaurant is a hybrid in compression, dynamic inside and static outside. Design of the restaurant with formal eating and relaxed lounging is stretched between two synthetic and strand worlds of opposite character: fire and ice. The ground floor in cool greys was inspired by the seasonal ice buildings of Sapporo. Tables emerge as sharp fragments to the raised level from the rear, drifting like ice across the space. Furnace of fire in brilliant reds, yellows and oranges whirls above the ice chamber. Bar tears through the ceiling of the ground floor and spirals up. Like a bursting pressure vessel underside of the dome-like fiery tornado . Elsewhere a plasma of biomorphic sofas hybridises eating and lounging with moveable trays, allowing for infinite seating configurations. Architelier (GCCDC Edit) |
